The Must-See Places (2x4h)

First time in Barcelona and you don’t want to miss anything. To split the tour in two days is the best; if it is not possible, let’s do it in a row stopping for lunch in a typical tapas restaurant.
Let’s make two blocks (4 hours each)
OLD TOWN: a walk to taste 2000 years of history. Let’s discover the Gothic Quarter, La Rambla, Food Market, Cathedral, Roman Temple, etc. A little break is always essential to taste a “Suïs” a delicious hot chocolate with cream and churros in a historic place.
NEW TOWN: includes the fancy Passeig de Gràcia with the most impressive bourgeoise houses such as Casa Batlló and la Pedrera; and of course, Gaudi’s masterpieces: Sagrada Familia and Park Güell.

If you choose the chauffeured vehicle per 4 hours option, then add to the listed places a panoramic tour where you will admire the views of Barcelona from the Montjuïc Hill, you will see the Olympic facilities and we will pass by the Arch of Triumph gateway of the Art Nouveau Architecture in Barcelona. If time permits let’s see the seafront.

Gaudí Tour (4h)

I presented a diploma today, to a madman or to a genius. Time will tell” said the Architecture Chair at the University of Barcelona about Antoní Gaudi. Let’s answer this question visiting some of his constructions:

– Passeig the Gràcia became the avenue where the wealthy Catalan families settled in the late nineteenth century. An emerged social class, that promoted the beginning of the economic development of Catalonia (now, the richest area of Spain). Casa Batlló and La Pedrera are some of its buildings.

– The Park Güell, a luxury residential site, was the reality of a utopia for his friend and patron, Eusebi Güell.

– The church of La Sagrada Família is the masterpiece of Gaudí, still unfinished and landmark of Barcelona.

Do you know the expression? ‘good things come in small packages’. Well, try Spanish finger food and a show! The best way to end your day!

There’s no better way to discover Spain than eating, and the way to enjoy it is certainly with a local, who shows you the places we go. So, don’t let anyone to pull the wool over your eyes and try with a local the popular TAPAS (cold or hot Spanish appetizers including the iconic jamon ibérico) and Pintxos (a little sandwich that is served on a stick).

The icing on the cake for this evening: A flamenco show, a dance traditionally from the south of Spain but due to historical reasons became very popular in Catalonia, the birthplace of the legendary flamenco dancer Carmen Amaya (she even danced for Roosvelt). You will meet Mimo, a relative of her, who will tell you the fascinating history of the family and will make you understand why flamenco is not just a dance but a way of life.

Markets & Food Stores (4h)

In this tour we will learn about Iberian ham, cheese, tapas, wines, world-renowned Spanish cooks.
Catalan cuisine is more than 2000 years old. There are restaurants that already existed in the eighteenth century, and locals go to centennial stores that appear in famous international magazines.

Let’s find out more!

At La Boqueria food market, proclaimed “The best market in the world!” during the World Market Congress in Washington – 2005, we will find the basic ingredients of our cuisine: meat offal, fish, Spanish saffron. . .
Outside of the market we will visit stores that have become famous for their specialisation: the ones that sell only oil, or convent sweets, wines from the Penedés or La Rioja, coffee, chocolate stores, or famous roasting factories with more than 160 years of history.
While we discover these places, we will also be able to taste some of their products: cheese, Spanish ham, nougat candy. . . and to eat in a restaurant of tapas and pintxos for their delicacy and this peculiar way of eating.

SHALOM!

Barcelona had one of the most important Jewish communities in Europe. Its relationship with the city was of great importance to the city’s history, but its relationship with the Christians was always tense. The 1391 events made them begin their exile, and with the Inquisition they disappeared entirely.

While we walk around their old Quarter, called “Call”, we will discover their customs, why they weren’t understood and what happened in 1391. We will see what were once their houses, some of them with the mezuzah mark on the door, the purification baths, the recently discovered Major Synagogue, the biggest of the 5 synagogues that the city had, and the Call Interpretation Centre (a research centre about Jewish heritage in Barcelona).
